Friends for the Future
The mentoring program matches youth ages 10 -17, living in the South Sacramento and Downtown areas with volunteer mentors in a one-to-one mentoring relationship. The mentoring program has matched more than 260 high-risk youth with trained adult mentors since it began serving the community in 1998. The goal of the mentoring program is to provide positive alternatives that educate youth with skills to achieve personal growth, develop their skills, and reach their potential.
Mentoring Activities. Each month youth and their mentors are encouraged to participate in mentoring activities organized by Friends For The Future. The mentoring activities are aimed at fostering the mentee and mentor relationship, as well as reinforce and teach life skills that promote leadership skills, healthy lifestyle choices, and academic and personal successes. The mentoring program attends monthly field trips to places and participates in mentoring activities such as: Six Flags Marine World, Camping in Santa Cruz, Ca, Kayaking at CSUS Aquatic Center, Self-esteem Workshop, College Preparatory Workshop, Scavenger Hunt at local Sacramento locations (CSUS campus, Westfield Shopping Mall, and Old Sacramento), and various Community Service Projects.
