Education & Outreach
These programs encompass health education, parenting workshops, citizenship classes and more.
TOBACCO HEALTH EDUCATION. Community projects, recreational activities, sports tournaments and presentations that educate youth about the dangers and consequences of tobacco use and secondhand smoke. www.sccsc-tobaccoed.org
MAKE PARENTING A PLEASURE. Parenting workshop designed to support both mothers and fathers with children between the ages of 0-5. Parents will learn positive discipline skills, communication techniques, ideas on how to manage the struggles of being a parent, and have the opportunity to share both successes and challenges. Parents will earn a certificate after completing the 13 week course. Parents are also welcomed on a drop-in basis.
TRANSCULTURAL WELLNESS CENTER. A culturally competent, language-appropriate service that assists Asian and Pacific Islander clients and families in their recovery from mental illness. Services include: community and school based outreach and education; mental health assessment and treatment by a multidisciplinary team; individual, group and family therapy in clients and families' preferred language; medication support services; bilingual staff or trained interpreters provide service linkage and coordination; and psycho-education and social rehabilitation.
CHINESE BRUSH PAINTING CLASSES. Classes on traditional Chinese art styles in brush painting. Classes are taught by renown Chinese brush painting artist-in-residence Lillian Seto. Student artwork was recently on exhibit at the International House in Davis, Calif.

CITIZENSHIP CLASSES. Classes on how to pass the written INS citizenship test and oral interview for limited-English speakers. Curriculum includes topics such as U.S. History, government, and American culture and social norms.
